Dear Sistahs….
I tell ya, 2004 was yet another eventful year for us! The embrace of sisterhood on these rides continues to amaze me. We are a remarkable sight as we scoot on down the road, especially when we wear our shirts. Women of all walks still approach us and we are, indeed, an inspiration. Our spirit is contagious.
Our second annual charity ride was an even greater success. Seventeen women raised over $1,600 cash as well as goods such as a basketball court (which was installed by Kim Talbot and his crew and all the cement was donated by the local cement plant),a new washer & dryer, vacuum cleaner, luggage and toiletries for the Verde Valley Sanctuary Shelter for battered women in Cottonwood, Arizona. Kris Nicola brought the girls in from Tucson and Courtney Wafford rounded up the Phoenix women. We even had a guest from the San Francisco area (Lenny) ride all the way down here to ride with us. Judy Heath and family members catered to an open invitation for the community to come out and join us for lunch. They provided all the food and family members served us. The table decorations were fabulous. Although we had a poor general public turn out at this luncheon, we hope to have a huge gathering this year. A local restaurant in Old Town will be available to us and I hope to be able to arrange for Kris Nicola and Tammy West to play music for us during lunch or later that evening. The press has also agreed to help us advertise for this event and I am sure the Town of Cottonwood will help us too. We are thinking about making up a scavenger hunt and welcome any of your ideas to help make this fun for the public and riding participants. Spouses and the general public are invited to the luncheon. However, only women can ride on the motorcycle run.

Kris Nicola continues to be an enormous help to Raw Thunder and has become my good friend! Please check out our website (www.rawthunder.com), enjoy the photo library, and post your ads and links for other women with riding interests. The site continues to change as we grow. It would be so nice if some of you would participate by sending your photos to Kris along with your story perspectives for the website.

Please don’t forget our website sponsor, Deb Martin. Check out her new shop in Prescott when you ride over there. You will be blown away at what they can do for you in this beautiful custom showroom and repair shop. She also carries a full line of T-Shirts, Leathers and various accessories. Tell her Raw Thunder sent you. Her shop will be on our way to the “Spar Highway” ride in June and we will stop by there for a visit.

This year we will be riding for a battered women’s shelter in Prescott or Flagstaff. I can easily accommodate 20 women at my place who need to stay overnight. I have plenty of room for your bikes and lots of floor space for your sleeping bags. If you want to camp, there is a beautiful State Park Lagoon just one mile from my home. This is our chance to make a difference! Please, invite and encourage your sisters to ride this event with us on May 21st in 2005. I am sure the local press will cover this event again. They gave us a half page on the front cover in 2004.

Raw Thunder always needs postage stamps and I need help from Tucson and Phoenix with calling trees. It has been my experience that I if I call members about 1 to 2 weeks before a ride more women attend. Calling 150 women personally is too much for me. I really need help with this, especially for the charity ride.

Please send me your mailing, e-mail and phone number changes so my files are current.
This is the year my friends! Expect the best. I miss all of you and cannot wait to ride in the wind with you In February.
Love,
Char
